Flotsam and jetsam

After a brief trip to the seaside I photographed and collected item that reminded me of the coast. The grey tones come from the rocks and fossils. The brown rust tones are from rusty ols boats and anchors. Whilst the green grassy looking tones is inspired by the sea weed scattered along the shores

Middle East Protest Fashion 2012-13

Taking inspiration from the

recent Arab protesting, we are sure to see shades inspired by the arab flags. Bright tones of red and green are toned down black, white, desert browns and camel. Take the strong minded masculinity style of arab leaders such as Gadaffi who wears tailored jackets and trousers. The female element comes from his all female army who wear camel toned outfits with minor burgundy or red detail. Gold trims add an expensive look to garments.

Egyptian Garment

During my Fashion materials and form
project. I was asked to look at texture and shape. For my final, the shape of my garment was inspired by the large oval shape of a plant cell. While the texture itself was inspired by the cells within the plant. The blue and yellow oval shapes on the garment were inspired by Egyptian geometric shapes within tombs and buildings. Whilst the colour blue/ yellow were common colours during the pharoahs.

I'll be using a variety of grey tones. Grey fabrics are commo in streetwer styles and stitch lines can easily be seen on shades such as grey or white

Textilists such as hil drissen uses cord lines on white fabric to illustrate scenery

I went roung and photographed the city taking inspiration from iconic features

I uesd buttons on a silver fabric to recreate the bullring.

Here i attempted to recreate the bull by selecting area such as the face and embroidering it onto fabric. I will look at more ways of doing this.

The rotunda tower i used ink and water to create this onto fabric
I tried to recreate textures by painting on bondaweb to give it a ruff texture like buildings.

The final print

Illustration of final design

The empire state building built in the 1930's. I like the curved shapes this building has and the triangular shaps and lines. From my final dress the design has both curves on the breats area and pleats to represent the lines.

My final design was based on the idea of taking inspiration from the 1920's and 1930's corsetry and underwear. Just like the 20's and 30's underwear is used an elasticated fabric for the bodice. I also used the idea of having the corset down to the hips, similar to the corset of the 20's and 30's.

1920's/ 1930's evening wear inspired dress

The aim of my project is to do an indepth research of the 20's and 30's era, taking inspiration from both decades to create an evening garment that is modern and contempry. Here's a few pics from my sketchbook and some fabric samples i'm thinking about using.
